The ‘FibreEYE’ Composite Inspection System is a state of the art system designed for in-process verification of the composite fibre deposition process.

FibreEYE provides in situ material defect detection and precise placement verification during the composite layup process. It uses advanced imaging combined with Artificial Intelligence to create a comprehensive inspection system. It is able to identify and classify edges, joints, material defects and foreign object debris (FOD). The unique sensor arrangement allows the customer to quicky and accurately map the ‘as laid’ boundary of each ply, as well as achieving quality assurance on the integrity of the material.

IMAGE NORMALISATION

Algorithms compensate for offset scans to rescale and realign generated surface profiles in real time.

The system is designed to detect the following surface anomalies:

  • Overlaps
  • Fibre orientation
  • Edge location
  • Fuzzballs
  • Foreign object detection

Adjacent scans are analysed and features spanning more than one scan are concatenated into a single anomaly.
