Summer has arrived in Dorset. |
This month, it feels like summer has finally arrived, and the Loop Technology team have been out and about, taking advantage of the many picturesque locations throughout the Dorset hills and coastline – one of the many benefits when working at Loop if you’re looking for a change of scenery. Check out our current vacancies here. |
Following on from last month’s focus on R&D at Loop Technology, we bring you another project spotlight with DACS, Distributed Automated Cutting System: A £500K development project to deliver a ground-breaking robotic paving slab cutting process. |
Loop Technology have partnered with Eurovia and The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) to combine metrology, robotics and artificial intelligence to improve on-site safety and reduce the widespread disruption and roadworks caused during pavement works.
The consortium aims to modernise the paving slab cutting process, enabling bespoke slabs to be produced within 24-36 hours which corresponds to a 40-50% improvement in paving productivity.
The project is currently underway in the Loop Technology Centre carpark, where a paving testbed has been laid. The team have begun testing different 3D scanning technology which will ultimately be used to generate the data for automatic block cutting.
