Welcome back from Loop Technology
From evenings down on the beach in Weymouth, to weekend stays in Scotland, Robyn the Robot and our team have made the most of their summer holidays. A big thank you to the Loop team for submitting their holiday photos.
Our newsletter is back this month to showcase some of our innovative end effectors.
Product Spotlight: Agile Fastening End Effectors
Our toolbox of fastening end effectors can automate the insertion and assembly of nuts and bolts, pintails and collars, rivets, and also dispense sealant.
How do they work?
Where appropriate, we have combined reliable, industry-standard tools with our industrial automation expertise to design compact end effectors that are ready to mount on a robotic arm.
Alongside the robust hardware is our innovative vision system that allows the end effector to pinpoint the exact position of a target so each task can be performed with the highest level of accuracy and reliability.
It also provides a built-in ability to perform 100% quality inspection for many tests such as bolt head surface flushness.
And behind the scenes, simple robot programs are provided to allow an automation engineer to develop the desired process flow.
Why Agile Assembly End Effectors?
Existing technologies are not suited to meet the demands of large-scale infrastructure manufacturers in terms of efficacy and flexibility.
By creating purpose-built end effectors for each process, it allows them to access confined spaces where traditional, large, multi-process end effectors cannot. Currently, physically demanding, manual techniques bridge this gap. Operators are exposed to health risks from inhaling volatile sealant chemicals and it is not possible to perform 100% inspection due to the restricted space.
Our agile end effectors provide the solution to these challenges.
Their compact design makes them perfect to deploy in confined spaces and around existing tooling, while their modular design makes them easy to reconfigure and reuse.
Loop Technology presents at the International Composites Summit 2021
Our Managing Director, Alun Reece, presented two innovative methods that supports the aerospace industry’s need to build composite planes faster.
If you missed out on the presentation, a recap is now available on our website. It features the premier of a new video showcasing a 5m wide variant of FibreROLL in action.
AMRC Technology Day
Loop Technology were invited to exhibit at The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Technology Day on the 8th September.
We were delighted for the opportunity to unveil our latest development, a smart deployment system. It caught the eye of many attendees, demonstrating its manoeuvrability and dexterity.

Next Month’s Focus
A complementary robot arm
We are currently developing a compact, high power density robot arm to complement our range of agile end effectors. Together, these technologies will allow deployment in challenging areas such as closed wing boxes.
