Description

A joint development project for the analysis and repair of damaged water pumps and train lines. This automated system is designed to ultrasonically scan the surface of the metal component to determine any cracks, failures or defects on the surface or within the structure of the part. Any discovered anomalies would be ground back and re-welded as a repairing method. Multiple end effectors were utilized including inspection, deposition and machining using an automatic tool changer.

The business case was to remove operators from working on the train line, improving the overall safety. The system was demonstrated on Loop Technology’s premises in Dorchester.
