Case Study: LED inspection system for automotive manufacturer
Traditionally the external illumination components of cars would be verified on the production line with a current clamp. The recent introduction of LEDs to vehicle light clusters has rendered this approach obsolete due to the low current characteristics of the LED units.
Loop provided a vision system capable of ‘counting’ the LEDs on the test vehicle as it moves down the line. The system was fully integrated into Ford’s production management system, using live vehicle data to not only verify the presence of the LED units, but also to check against the vehicle’s build specification to ensure that low spec vehicles were not given LED units by mistake. Test results were automatically transmitted to the plant’s central quality control server minimising the operator interaction required to run the cell.
